Part 11 By Kirsten

Paperwork. Paperwork. Paperwork. And of course more paperwork. I was being buried in paperwork and my hand was beginning to cramp up on me. Being at Eastern Command was nice so far. I had men who weren't too serious but were obedient and loyal. And I was respected. My superior was fairly layed back also.

It was the paperwork though that was killing me. I was almost finished when Riza Hawkeye knocked on my door. "Come in." I called running a hand over my face with a sigh. "Sir, I was wondering if you were interested in eating?" she said and I thought about it. "Not right now thank you." "Are you sure?" she persisted. "Yes I'm sure. Thank you though." I told her and she left with a nod.

I needed to finish the last of this work today and wasn't planning on leaving until it was done. At least I wasn't planning on leaving until it was done. That was before someone cleared their throat behind me and almost made me topple from my chair. And seeing that the only thing behind me was a wall and a window, and that I was on the third story of a military command center, I had (to some extent) a right to be startled.

"I didn't know the highly esteemed Colonel Roy Mustang could be scared so easily." The voice, which I now knew belonged to a young girl since I had a gun trained on her, said. "How do you know me?" I asked. It was unnerving to me that this girl was leaning on the outer edge of the window with apparently nothing to hold her up. "How would I not know who you were?" she asked rhetorically. "Now please put down the gun."

"Tell me who you are." I said.

"I'm hurt you don't remember me." She said with a grin. "But seriously, do I need to
knock some people's head together?" she trained her eyes on me and it clicked.

"Kiarra?" I asked uncertain. She looked so… different. Her hair was cut short so it framed her face in a chopped manner and though she was still skinny she was a fair amount taller and had muscled up some. Other than that, now that I looked, she still had the same sharp features and the same mischievous glint in her eye, she didn't look very different at all.

She made a 'duh' face and smiled widely as she hopped into the room. "It's good to see you alive too. Now put down the gun… please." I complied but kept it easily in reach.
She bit her lip and held out her hand "It is really good to see you."

I took her hand and shook it lightly. "You too." I told her. I motioned to one of the two chairs across from my desk. She took one almost hesitantly.

"What happened to you?" I asked her quietly knowing it may be a touchy subject. "Where'd you want me to start?" she asked me and I replied "The beginning."

She told me that back in Ishbal they'd been jumped by far more people than I had thought and that while she'd been hurt she had escaped capture. She didn't go into detail how she escaped and I didn't press her. She told me that once she'd gotten here (to Amestras) she'd had been healed but also been double crossed. I actually let out a small chuckle when she told me she 'escaped' from the orphanage on her first day because it was something I could only see her doing. She told me about the following years where she tried to maintain her education which was already as far as I knew superb and far above other Amestrian girls and boys her age. She told me how she lived on the streets and in the woods, how she did odd jobs for odd people and how she dodged the cops more than once.
When she was done she said too me "What about you? What have you been doing these past few years?" I thought for a moment and then finally started with what happened before the end of the war then went on to explain how I came to be in command here in the Eastern Command Center.

"You're guys here sound like fun." She commented with a crooked smile. "I'd love to meet 'em. That is unless you're busy tomorrow?" I looked at the paperwork on my desk then at her. "Tomorrow after lunch come by." I told her thinking I should be done by then.

She grinned like a Cheshire cat and stood up holding out her hand. "Tomorrow it is then." She said as I shook her hand. "It was nice seeing you again Roy." She started back toward the window and something popped into my head.

"How did you get in here?" I asked her and she just kept that grin on her face. "The window." I must have given her a look that told her to explain. "It isn't hard to make stairs from the side of a building. Or a ledge for that matter. But it was a little hard to sneak up here without being seen. Lucky for me though I'm just that awesome."
With a small wave she stepped cautiously out the window onto a small ledge then hopped from one ledge to another down while with each hop the one she had previously been on disintegrated.

After she was on the ground and out of sight I turned back to my desk head in hands. Well, back to the paperwork I thought grimly.

In the morning after Kiarra showed up I was trying to explain to my men who she was but I was (to put it mildly) having a hard time. Havoc was apparently picturing a woman around his own age in his mind that he could possibly date, Falman I couldn't tell you what he was thinking except it was a lot younger version of her, and Breda and the others were having their own ideas. First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye was the only person who actually understood who I was talking about.

"Sir?" she asked after I dismissed the others utterly giving up. "Yes?" I asked her running a hand over my face. "How do you know she's coming?" I almost groaned "I saw her yesterday." "But-" "Please no more questions." I almost wanted to beat my head against the wall but refrained from doing so.

I sat back in my chair, listening to messages and reading over summaries for new fugitives and possible alchemists.

"Well you look as bored as a brick wall" I looked up to see Kiarra standing just inside the door with Riza and Falman behind her. "Sir we couldn't stop her-" "Yes. Yes." I said standing up and making my way over to them. "Falman, meet Kiarra, Kiarra this is Falman." I introduced them swiftly, taking small notice of the surprise on Falman's face. "Lt. Hawkeye you've met before."

"Yep. Nice to see you again Lieutenant Hawkeye and nice to meet you Mr. Falman." She said holding her hand out but putting it down when neither made a move to take it. "Well am I going to be shown around?" she asked with a grin.
Hope you guys enjoy this little addition to the story.
